Electronics Design Engineer

Location: York

Renishaw (MDL) is recruiting for the role of Electronic Design Engineer to work within the product design/development group at our York site. The role will encompass all aspects of the design phase from initial concept through to finished product.

Key duties:

  • Electronics engineering input into concept design and development
  • Design of electronic circuits for our laser range finders and systems, to include prototype build, test and data analysis to prove out design
  • Integration of electronics within the product in conjunction with the optics and mechanical designers

Key requirements:

All applicants are required to have the following:

  • Educated to degree level in Electronics Engineering
  • Previous experience in product development
  • Familiarity with high speed digital/analogue design and data processing
  • In depth understanding of embedded systems firmware, FPGAs and VHDL
  • Knowledge of schematic capture

Although not essential it would be desirable if applicants have some knowledge of the following:

  • Design for EMC
  • Firmware development
  • PCB layout
  • Basic knowledge of surveying

Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: York

The company has a reputation for high quality design and the manufacture of novel solutions to solve contactless measurement tasks across a global market.

Renishaw (MDL) are recruiting for the role of Mechanical Design Engineer to work within the multidiscipline product design/development in York. The role will encompass all aspects of the design phase from initial concept through to finished product.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include, but not be limited to):

  • Mechanical Engineering input into concept design and development
  • Provide mechanical engineering support to both existing and new product developments
  • Build, test and prove out prototypes and develop through to production units
  • Support product requirements capture and integrate into product specification
  • Generation of supporting documentation

Key Requirements:

  • A Mechanical Engineering degree or similar
  • Proven competence in mechanical design within an industrial/manufacturing environment
  • Experience in 3D CAD packages to create designs and detailed drawings
  • Good knowledge of current manufacturing techniques and technology
  • Familiarity with geometric tolerance definition and understanding
  • Appreciation of quality procedures

Desirable Requirements:

  • Familiarity with Siemens NX (Unigraphics) and Teamcentre
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor
  • An appreciation of electro-optical aspects of design
  • The ability to innovate when solving problems

Service Technician

Location: Aberdeen

Main Purpose of the Job:

To carry out subassembly production, repair, service and calibration of the MDL Fanbeam product range, seeking to improve MDL's service capability by developing high levels of customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities (to include, but not be limited to):

  • Customer satisfaction and support
  • Efficient subassembly production, repair and service of the complete range of Fanbeam products either on site or at a client's location
  • Stock management of spare parts & subassembly production
  • Product testing and diagnostic work
  • Service reporting as required by management team
  • Service training to third party dealers and distributors
  • Communication between sales, administration and logistics relating to day to day service business
  • Ensure that all service operations are undertaken in accordance with current and possible future legislation
  • Contribute to a culture in which each individual accepts responsibility for their tasks, takes clearly defined guidelines to resolve problems as they occur, and exhibits a pro-active rather than a re-active stance
  • To attend internal and external training courses as required

  • Organised, with high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel both locally and overseas, occasionally at short notice
  • Willing and able to be part of the “on-call” rota which will include night times and weekends
